I'm not packed.
And I'm drinking. And I'm not quite sure how the hell I'm going to get up at 7AM tommorrow to catch my flight to Vegas. Getting up early isn't exactly a strong suit for me these days.
Hell, I don't even wear pants anymore.
Being a poker pro has it's perks.
As an added bonus, I ran over my cellphone with my car the day I quit my job last October.
Dear Lord, in a short while, 70 poker bloggers will be invading Las Vegas.
Epic.
Superlatives fail me.
But this surely is an apex moment for us.
I was out on my deck yesterday, reading (Harrington on Hold Em), when I spied a giant horned owl flying across the east pasture. Normally not a superstitious guy, I still went in and googled the symbology of owls.
-------
In Ancient Greek mythology the Owl was a creature sacred to Athena, Goddess of the night who represented wisdom. Athena, the Greek Goddess of Wisdom had a companion Owl on her shoulder, which revealed unseen truths to her. Owl had the ability to light up Athena's blind side, enabling her to speak the whole truth, as opposed to only a half truth.
The Ainu in Japan trust the Owl because it gives them notice of evil approaching. They revere the Owl, and believe it mediates between the Gods and men.
The bird features prominently Celtic folklore where it is considered both to be sacred and to have magical powers, again because of its abilities in the dark.
Zulus and other West African nations consider the bird a powerful influence in casting spells, and think that using parts of the owl gives great strength to a person involved with magical incantations.
-------
Damnit, this still doesn't tell me if I should buy my way into WSOP event #2.
Actually, I think going into this trip with zero plans, expectations, or notebook is the way to go. It worked well for the last gathering and will have to suffice this time, too. I'm not going for the poker - I already play a shitload of poker. I'm going to meet folks and root on WSOP bloggers. That's my agenda. Oh yeah, and booze.
I was going to sell BLOGS ARE GAY tshirts but I ran out of time.
In a fun twist of irony, for the past 19 months I've written very little about myself, but in person, I'm actually a wide-open book. Sadly, that doesn't make me any more interesting, but good conversation over cold beers is truly bliss to me. So I really hope to get ample chat time in with fellow bloggers. That's why we're doing this, after all.
I'm just a drunken poker-playing dwarf with a keyboard and a tendency to uber post.
Damn, everyone was so freaking cool last time. I can't believe at this time tommorrow I'm gonna be drunk in Vegas. I'm at the Excalibur, btw.
Let's hope that owl was a premonition of good things to come.
A pic of me so you can recognize me at the tables. Isn't it obvious why I don't want pics of myself published? Bonus photo of my pony.
